Drive to Visegrad located 40 km north of Budapest. The ancient ruins of Aquincum
The territory of Hungary was part of the Roman Empire for 4 centuries. Aquincum was the capital of the Roman province called Pannonia. In the Aquincum museum, you can visit the archeological site and valuable finds among them the world-famous water organ.
Visegrád-Danube bend
Visegrad is the capital of Danube Bend located 40 km north of Budapest alongside the river Danube. The historic village which was the seat of the Hungarian kings in the middle ages features a medieval castle located on the hilltop with a fabulous view of the Danube Bend. The Danube Bend is a picturesque stretch of the River Danube where the river makes a sharp "S" turn and changes its floating direction from west to east to north to south.
Visegrad High Castle
The medieval Visegrad High Castle is located above the village on a hilltop with a fabulous view of the Danube Bend. The castle exhibition showcases a replica of the Hungarian Holy Crown, medieval armours and guns, wildlife and there is also a panopticon with life-size wax figures.
Szentendre
Szentendre is a picturesque baroque town located 25 km north of Budapest alongside the river Danube. The tiny old town features colourful houses, churches art galleries, and museums. You can stroll around the tiny main square flanked by dozens of cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops and try “langos” ( fried bread) a favourite meal of the locals.
